COVID-19 Updates

March 21, 2022

The Province of Ontario has ended the mask mandate.
Hamilton’s Public Health Unit recommends wearing a well-fitting mask indoors, especially if it’s crowded. The HTI Board of Directors reminds you to be kind & respectful to individuals that still choose to wear a protective face mask or covering.  As always, HTI will work hard to make our space safe and welcoming for everyone who comes to visit us.

February 27, 2022

The Province of Ontario will be ending the proof of vaccination program as of March 1st, 2021.  HTI will no longer be requiring proof of vaccination for its performers, volunteers and patrons. Organizations renting our theatre be allowed to enact additional screening and safety measures.

December 17, 2021

Due to the increasing cases due to the omicron variant, we will not be accepting any rental requests for our venue at this time.

October 9, 2021

As of October 9th, 2021 The Province of Ontario has amended the regulations for performing arts:
– 100 percent capacity will be allowed for theatre venues
– Proof of vaccination will be required to attend an event or performance at the theatre.  Each patron will provide proof of identification and of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
– Performers maintain a physical distance of at least two metres from any spectators or are separated from any spectators by plexiglass or some other impermeable barrier.
– Every member of the public who is attending a performance, concert, or event must wear a mask or face covering in a manner that covers their mouth, nose, and chin
– No member of the public may attend a seated concert, event, performance, or movie within the concert venue, theatre, or cinema unless they have made a reservation to do so.

September 20, 2021

The Hamilton Theatre Inc Board of Directors approved and passed a motion that all volunteers be fully vaccinated from Covid-19 to be able to participate in an HTI production or event.  The policy will not apply to children under the age of 11 who are not yet eligible to receive a vaccine or individuals who have been deemed medically exempt.

Hamilton Theatre Inc has an obligation to take all necessary precautions to protect the health & safety of its volunteers, members, performers, and creative team.  It is especially important for Hamilton Theatre Inc to implement this policy because performers remove their masks for the purposes of singing and acting. Hamilton Theatre Inc is following through with its commitment to the health & safety of all members, volunteers, performers, patrons, and our broader communities by enacting this policy.

July 17, 2021

The Province of Ontario has entered Stage 3 of its reopening plan.  Under stage 3, the following is allowed for performing arts:

– The number of members of the public at an indoor seated concert, event, performance, or movie within the concert venue, theatre, or cinema at any one time must not exceed 50 percent of the usual seating capacity for the concert venue, theatre, or cinema.
– No member of the public may attend a seated concert, event, performance, or movie within the concert venue, theatre, or cinema unless they have made a reservation to do so.
– Mask or face coverings required indoors and outdoors at a concert, event, performance, or movie

HTI will continue to follow all protocols and restrictions that have been laid out by The Public Health Unit.

July 22, 2020

It is with heavy hearts that we share our decision to cancel our previously announced 2020-2021 theatre season.  All of us here at HTI feel your disappointment.  Performing is the life-blood of who we are, but to go forward potentially puts the health of our members and patrons at risk.  The health and safety of our community is our first and foremost concern.  We are still in the midst of the pandemic and the uncertainty of a second wave occurring also increases our financial risk and we feel that it is the safest and most responsible option.

We understand that there may be questions and concerns following this announcement – please reach out to us should you need clarification.  This will not mark the end for HTI. It is our hope in 2021 to put on various cabaret events as health restrictions evolve and things improve.  We encourage you to follow us on FacebookTwitterInstagram or our online newsletter for updates.  All announcements regarding events and our 2021-2022 season will be made through our online newsletter and our social media pages. If you are interested in helping HTI by making a donation, please visit hamiltontheatre.com/donate

We would like to thank you for supporting local theatre and the performing arts.  Stay safe and we look forward to performing for you again.

With the City of Hamilton and Province of Ontario recommending continued physical distancing, we are officially postponing our production of Spring Awakening. For our 64th season, we will now be presenting SPRING AWAKENING, FAME, and LA CAGE AUX FOLLES.

Trust that we will do everything in our power to keep our theatre safe and to give you an unforgettable season when the time is right to light our stage once more.

March 18, 2020

With the most recent announcement from the provincial government, the Hamilton Theatre Inc Board of Directors has decided that we will be suspending Spring Awakening rehearsals to encourage social distancing until April 6th, at which point, with directives from the city and health professionals, we will re-assess the situation. We are also suspending sales of Spring Awakening tickets. We will continue to keep you informed of any new developments as they come up.

Thank you for your understanding.

March 16, 2020

The Hamilton Theatre Inc Board of Directors continue to closely monitor updates related to COVID-19 from our local, provincial, and national governments.

There are no rentals or events that are scheduled to take place over the next 7 weeks. Presently, our studio theatre space is being used for rehearsals for our spring show. We are following enhanced cleaning and handwashing/sanitizing recommendations.
The final production of our 63rd season, Spring Awakening opens Friday, May 8th, 2020. With the suspension of many local events, programs, and gatherings scheduled to resume mid-April, we are still hopeful that we can go forward with our show as scheduled. We will assess the need for programming changes based on COVID-19 developments.

Hamilton Public Health is reporting that the risk of contracting the virus locally is still low.
Ontario health officials have urged a temporary ban on gatherings of 250 people or more to help slow the spread of COVID-19. The capacity of Hamilton Theatre Inc’s Studio Theatre is 100.

We want our patrons, members, and volunteers to feel safe inside our studio theatre. The Board of Directors will be discussing contingencies and strategies that fit with the health and safety needs of our members, volunteers, and patrons based on information and guidelines available from local, provincial and federal agencies at this time.

We promise to update everyone with our plans through our social media pages, online newsletter, and website.

Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated. Should any performances be canceled we will email patrons directly regarding the status of each performance as details are confirmed. The most up-to-date status for each event will be available on our website.
